1.3 billion people in developing
countries live on $1.25 per day
which the UN calls absolute poverty;
and the majority are women.

Studies show empowering women
is the key leverage point to lifting
everyone out of the cycle of poverty.

That key leverage point is
shifting one’s beliefs from
"I can't" to "I can"

Hi there, Josie here…

A few years back I began a journey to learn how I could contribute to the world. I was drawn to the issue of women’s empowerment in the developing world because as a woman, I felt the need to support my global sisters.

I became informed by reading " The Missing Piece in the Empowerment Equation: A Strategy for Delivering Personal Agency to Women in the Developing World" by Gail Straub and watching the accompanying video. Watching this video and reading this white paper inspired me to want to make a difference! It showed me that there’s a tool I could run with and an amazing platform for social change.

I then wanted to know more about the issue of women’s empowerment so I read Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn. This allowed me to understand the bigger picture of women’s empowerment to which the IMAGINE initiative is contributing a missing piece.

Be informed

become empowered

For the next leg of my journey I wanted to learn about these techniques first hand. So I attended David Gershon and Gail Straub’s Empowerment Instituteto empower myself and to learn how to empower others. It turned out to be the beginning of a great adventure for me.

I learned to love and trust myself in new ways. I discovered dreams I didn’t even know I had. And most of all I learned to tap into my full potential. I invite you to empower yourself so you can live your dreams and together one woman at a time we can create the world of our dreams. It starts with us!

I encourage you to also go on a journey of empowerment. Listen to the free abridged audio of David Gershon and Gail Straub’s best selling book Empowerment: The Art of Creating Your Life As You Want It. Read the full book and do the exercises for yourself. And if this really touches you, as it did me, I encourage you to attend the Empowerment Workshop so you can experience this powerful process first hand.

empower others

Empowering others has been such a beautiful way to connect and support the people I love. Realizing that we have a choice to go towards our dreams is a profound experience that transcends any life circumstance. The empowerment tools are simple to use and people are successfully using them all around the world. We all deserve the opportunity to grow, thrive and live life to its fullest. We all have dreams and the great news is these are great tools to help us live them. Spread the love!

become a change agent

In order to make a positive impact on our beautiful and fragile planet and help those in need, we must be skillful warriors. By learning smart ways to create social change, we move from wanting to change the world to actually changing it. Let’s empower ourselves to realize our dreams for a better world.

I believe it is possible to create the world that we want to live in. The next steps on my journey to be a powerful change agent was to acquire strategies and tools to do just that. I read Social Change 2.0: A Blueprint for Reinventing Our Worldby David Gershon that informed me in so many ways about how to create positive change in my personal life, my business life and my life as a social change agent. If you want to create positive change at any level, do read this book.

The next book I recommend is one that I carry with me everywhere. I turn to it often to guide me through my inner yearnings and my outer dreams. I hope this book serves you as well as it is serving me. It is called The Rhythm of Compassion: Caring for Self, Connecting with Societyby Gail Straub.

And finally, I invite you share the film "IMAGINE: I Am and I Can" with your friends and social network. The world changes one belief, one person and one act of commitment at a time. Hopefully as enough people see this film it will build a critical mass of commitment to the issue of women's empowerment and social change at-large and a virtuous cycle will begin.

give love

Give love

It feels so good to give. Knowing that I’m contributing to something that is changing the game in the women’s empowerment space makes me feel really proud. My company, Josie Maran Cosmetics, supports the IMAGINE initiative in many ways. And one important way is through money. My contribution provides scholarships to bring NGO leaders to the Empowerment Institute, research and development so IMAGINE can become even more effective, and the ability to build this movement by reaching out to more NGO’s around the world. Join me in contributing to the empowerment of women across the globe believing they can!

Thank you for joining me on this path of possibility filled with love, hope, inspiration and connection with our sisters across the globe. Together we can create a world of our dreams!

With love, Josie

P.S. Let me know how it goes as you use these empowerment tools and become more involved in the issue of women’s empowerment. This will help guide us as we develop our next level of opportunities. Please send your ideas and feedback to
